IN NOVEM­BER 2014, Mass­mart’s Makro re­vealed plans to launch a locker-based pick-up ser­vice as a means to pro­vide ad­di­tional de­liv­ery op­tions for shop­pers. This new de­liv­ery op­tion was to sup­ple­ment the home de­liv­ery and in-store click and col­lect so­lu­tions al­ready of­fered by Makro stores.

“We re­main ex­cited at the po­ten­tial of this chan­nel,” the com­pany in­formed in­vestors. “Anal­y­sis of online cus­tomer pur­chas­ing be­hav­iour has in­di­cated that click-and-col­lect cus­tomers typ­i­cally make fur­ther pur­chases in-store when col­lect­ing their online pur­chases.

“While still ef­fec­tively in test­phase, the new Makro pick-up locker pro­ject demon­strates our will­ing­ness to in­no­vate, and dur­ing Septem­ber 2015 we will launch a Com­mer­cial Cus­tomer online so­lu­tion.”
