SANRAL’S E-TOLL BATTLE R5.9bn
The South African National Roads Agency (Sanral) said it will start issuing civil summonses against non-payers of e-tolls ahead of a meeting with ratings agency Moody’s in May. Moody’s has placed Sanral, which is struggling to address the culture of nonpayment of e-tolls, on review for a credit rating downgrade. Outstanding e-toll debt totalled R5.9bn at the end of November 2015, Business Day reported. Motorists can still qualify for a 60% discount on their unpaid e-tolls from December 2013 to 31 August 2015.
