In 2014, when Nige­ria re­based its GDP data, South Africa lost its sta­tus as the big­gest econ­omy on the con­ti­nent. How­ever, ac­cord­ing to the IMF’s World Eco­nomic Out­look re­leased in mid-April, South Africa’s slide con­tin­ued, KPMG’s Christie Viljoen re­ported. Ac­cord­ing to this re­port, SA has slipped another po­si­tion, and is now the third-big­gest econ­omy on the con­ti­nent. While Nige­ria re­tains the top spot, Egypt is now Africa’s sec­ond-big­gest econ­omy.
