THE UGLY

Finweek English Edition - - THE WEEK -

As the battles between President Jacob Zuma’s tenderpreneur and finance minister Pravin Gordhan’s anti-tenderpreneur camps seem set to intensify even further in the run-up to the local elections in August, ordinary South Africans will pick up the tab. As Piotr Matys of Dutch multinational Rabobank said to the Financial Times: “The rand and local assets will be extremely sensitive to any further developments that may have serious implications for the much appreciated finance minister Gordhan. […] One can only hope that after causing total mayhem in December, President Jacob Zuma will very carefully consider all options available when it comes to making any crucial decisions regarding Gordhan.”
