The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that the Zika virus, an infectious disease linked to severe birth defects in babies, may spread into Europe as the weather gets warmer, Reuters reported. The risk is seen as small to moderate, and is highest in areas where Aedes mosquitoes thrive, notably Madeira and the north-eastern coast of the Black Sea. The WHO said there is also strong scientific consensus that Zika can cause Guillain-Barre, a rare neurological syndrome that causes paralysis in adults, Reuters said.
