SIBANYE TO SUE
Sibanye is to issue the department of mineral resources (DMR) with a R26m legal claim following the application of a number of section 54 safety stoppages at Kroondal platinum mines last year, Miningmx reported, citing market sources. The DMR allegedly operated outside the scope of its authority following a fatal accident in September. The accident was caused by non-compliance by employees to existing safety standards and procedures, and therefore wasn’t considered to be a wide-ranging threat to employee safety. Yet the DMR stopped production at Kroondal’s five shafts and refused to lift the suspension for several days, it reported.
