THE BAD

Finweek English Edition - - THE WEEK -

A lasting solution must be found to ensure that municipalities pay their Eskom accounts on a regular basis. It is unfair that paying consumers and businesses should have to deal with the inconvenience of power disruptions, a (completely legal) blackmailing strategy by Eskom to force municipalities to pay their bills. At the time of writing on 18 January, consumers and businesses in 11 towns in the North West and Northern Cape have had to deal with power cuts from 6:00 to 8:00 and 17:00 to 19:30 from Mondays to Fridays, and from 8:30 to 11:00 and from 15:00 to 17:30 over weekends.
