MALL OF AFRICA IMPRESSES
The massive 133 000m2 Mall of Africa in Midrand has delivered beyond that expected by JSElisted capital growth fund Attacq. On its first day of trading late in April last year, the mall, owned by Attacq and Atterbury, attracted 123 000 visitors. Since opening it has attracted 13.7m people. That’s an average monthly footfall of over 1.2m visitors. Turnover for the 11 months of trading to March 2017 equated to a monthly average of R311.6m. Sales per square metre were R2 630 on average, compared with the average R2 000/m2 mall owners typically hope to achieve in a mall’s first year of operation.
