ROOIBOS PRODUCER CHARGED

Finweek English Edition - - THE WEEK -

Local rooibos tea producer Rooibos Ltd. has been charged with abuse of dominance by the Competition Commission and faces an administrative penalty equal to 10% of its annual turnover, Business Day reported on 20 June. The commission said the charge, which follows a complaint lodged by competitor Khoisan Tea in 2015, is based on evidence that the company used its dominant position in the market to prevent the expansion of its rivals. Rooibos Ltd. is the largest processor of rooibos tea in South Africa and, according to the report, controls about 70% of the market.
