Two decades af­ter J.K. Rowl­ing’s Harry Pot­ter and the Philoso­pher’s Stone ap­peared in book­shops with an ini­tial print run of 500 copies, an em­pire worth more than $25bn has de­vel­oped around the boy wiz­ard, span­ning books, movies, theme parks, tours, the­atre shows and toys. The Harry Pot­ter se­ries of seven books has since been published in 79 lan­guages, and more than 450m copies have been sold across the world, ft.com re­ported. To­day Rowl­ing, who was liv­ing on ben­e­fits when she started writ­ing the books, has a for­tune val­ued at a con­ser­va­tive £650m, with mil­lions given to char­i­ties along the way, ft.com said.
