“IT’S SOMETHING THAT WOULD BE WONDERFUL IF YOU CAN ACCOMPLISH IT – I’D LOVE TO SEE IT.”
− US Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen responding to a question from a Republican senator on 13 July as to whether US President Donald Trump’s 3% US economic growth target over the next five years was possible. She added that it would be an admirable but difficult feat to achieve, casting doubt on the Trump administration’s ability to reach that goal with deregulation, infrastructure spending and tax reform, Bloomberg reported. Yellen’s comments came a day after White House budget director Mick Mulvaney penned an op-ed in the The Wall Street Journal reiterating a goal of 3% sustained growth, up from the post-recession average of about 2%.
