Almost two years after it discovered the tennisball-sized, 1 109 carat Lesedi La Rona diamond at its mine in Botswana, the Lucara Diamond Corporation sold the stone to British jewellers Graff Diamonds for $53m. BDLive reported on 26 September that Lucara had struggled to find a buyer for the diamond – the second-largest gem-quality diamond ever found – because equipment in the cutting and polishing industry to assess a diamond of this size did not exist. Graff will study it carefully to determine how best to cut and polish the diamond into several finished diamonds, read the report.
