Despite a “potent cocktail of negatives” that have troubled emerging markets this year, investment firm BlackRock has said that it sees potential for a rebound in emerging markets. BlackRock said it would retain an overweight stance on emerging market equities. “Is the emerging market sell-off a canary in the coal mine for global markets? We see it more as a series of idiosyncratic accidents that have masked stronger emerging market fundamentals.” BlackRock said consensus at September 2018 was that earnings per share (EPS) in emerging markets would see growth of 12% next year, compared with a global average growth of 10%.
