The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has received a qualified audit due to it amassing R1.712bn in irregular expenditure, reports Businesslive. According to the business website, the improper spending was mainly due to non-compliance on procurement and contract management. On tabling Sassa’s annual report in Parliament, auditor-general Kimi Makwetu said the agency, which is responsible for giving grants to millions of poor people, failed to take any disciplinary action against the officials who were responsible for the irregular spending.
