A­ni­mal lo­vers we­re ap­pal­led by the cru­el­ty of hu­ma­ni­ty last week, af­ter seeing pic­tu­res on the Gar­den Rou­te-SPCA's Fa­ce­book pa­ge of a bad­ly in­ju­red dog that, ac­cor­ding to the o­w­ner, had been at­tac­ked with a pan­ga. The three-y­e­ar-old pit bull,

Wed­nes­day e­ve­ning at a­bout 19:45 in

Zo­ne 6, T­hem­ba­let­hu. Gar­den Rou­te SPCA in­spec­tor An­dré Baart­man went to the sce­ne and found the bad­ly in­ju­red dog that had lost a sig­ni­fi­cant a­mount of b­lood. Baart­man con­fir­med the dog had i­an­ju­ries to her skull and her snout. "She was in shock and pain." Toscha has been ad­mit­ted to the SPCA cli­nic secti­on and will stay until her wounds ha­ve he­a­led. Baart­man says he was dis­may­ed w­hen he ar­ri­ved at the sce­ne. "The in­ju­red dog and its o­w­ners wai­ted hel­ples­sly next to the pa­vement." He said it see­med as if Toscha's o­w­ners and c­hild­ren from the a­rea had wit­nes­sed the bru­tal at­tack. Baart­man said a ca­se will be o­pe­ned a­gainst the sus­pect. He en­coura­ged pe­op­le to re­port any vi­o­len­ce a­gainst a­ni­mals im­me­di­a­te­ly by con­tacting the Gar­den Rou­te SPCA on 044 878 1990 du­ring of­fi­ce hours, and the e­mer­gen­cy af­ter-hours li­ne on 082 378 7384.

Toscha is re­co­ve­ring af­ter she was bru­tal­ly at­tac­ked last Wed­nes­day. Do­na­ti­ons from a­ni­mal lo­vers ha­ve been f­looding in to en­s­u­re she re­cei­ved fi­ne me­di­cal tre­at­ment.
