Lo­cals in­vi­ted to join mi­li­ta­ry a­ca­de­my exe­r­ci­se

Lo­cal run­ners and ro­ad cy­clis­ts are in­vi­ted to pre-re­gis­ter and join the South A­fri­can Mi­li­ta­ry A­ca­de­my on part of their an­nu­al Tran­sEn­du­ro exe­r­ci­se al­ong the Gar­den Rou­te in No­vem­ber.

The Tran­sEn­du­ro is a mi­li­ta­ry tra­di­ti­on da­ting back to the 1980s in which stu­dents from the a­ca­de­my par­ti­ci­pa­te in a two week, mul­ti-dis­ci­pli­na­ry exe­r­ci­se with cha­ri­ty out­re­ach. A to­tal of 180 first and se­cond y­e­ar stu­dents will run, cy­cle and sail from Port E­li­za­beth to the Mi­li­ta­ry A­ca­de­my in Sal­dan­ha from 22 No­vem­ber to 2 De­cem­ber. The e­vent is sup­por­ted by stu­dent-ba­sed lo­gis­ti­cs and ad­mi­nis­tra­ti­on te­ams. It is com­ple­men­ted by a strong com­mu­ni­ty out­re­ach pro­gram­me and fun­drai­sing ef­forts in the towns they vi­sit.

The te­ams will ar­ri­ve in Ge­or­ge from P­let­ten­berg Bay on 27 No­vem­ber and le­a­ve for Still Bay the next day. Run­ning, cy­cling and sai­ling ta­ke pla­ce con­cur­rent­ly. The 10km ro­ad run through Ge­or­ge pro­mi­ses to be a tre­at: run­ners will join in ar­my-sty­le sin­ging ai­med at ha­ving fun and gai­ning ex­po­su­re for its fun­drai­sing. Cy­clis­ts can join the Tran­sEn­du­ro stu­dents on a 50km (100km re­turn) stretch from Ge­or­ge to Mos­sel Bay al­ong the N2. They can turn back from w­he­re the cy­cling te­am pro­ceeds to Still Bay. In­di­vi­du­als and te­ams wan­ting to join the cy­cling te­am will ha­ve to pre-re­gis­ter by 15 No­vem­ber by con­tacting the can­di­da­te of­fi­cer, Pu­se­let­so Ma­thi­be­la, on 073 137 6697 or pu­se­let­so. ma­thi­be­la.62@gmail.com. No re­gis­tra­ti­on will be pos­si­ble on the day. Be­cau­se run­ning and cy­cling ta­ke pla­ce si­mul­ta­ne­ous­ly, par­ti­ci­pants can on­ly re­gis­ter for one acti­vi­ty.
