No fi­re per­mits will be is­su­ed in Ge­or­ge for next fi­ve mont­hs

The Ge­or­ge Mu­ni­ci­pa­li­ty will not is­sue any per­mits for con­trol­led burns with im­me­di­a­te ef­fect from 5 No­vem­ber.

Ge­or­ge Fi­re C­hief Neels Barnard said the me­a­su­re is part of sum­mer fi­re se­a­son pre­cau­ti­ons and will ap­ply until the end of March 2019, de­pen­ding on the we­at­her con­di­ti­ons and pre­dicti­ons at t­hat time. "Per­mits are u­su­al­ly is­su­ed until midNo­vem­ber, but con­si­de­ring the cur­rent fi­re e­mer­gen­cy si­tu­a­ti­on no mo­re per­mits will be is­su­ed by the Ge­or­ge Fi­re De­part­ment with im­me­di­a­te ef­fect," said Barnard.

"The mu­ni­ci­pa­li­ty ap­pe­als to all people who li­ve, work and vi­sit the a­rea to exe­r­ci­se ex­tre­me cau­ti­on at all times; to ma­ke fi­res in pro­tected and de­sig­na­ted a­re­as on­ly, and to dis­po­se of ci­ga­ret­te butts sa­fely. The­re is a long, hot sum­mer a­he­ad and we need e­ver­yo­ne to help in kee­ping our re­gi­on sa­fe."
