HI-TEC NAVIGATOR HIKING BOOTS

Nothing is safe from the tide of wearable tech, not even your toes. The latest innovation from HiTec takes navigation to a new level by combining it with a hiking boot. Basically, two chargeable pods embedded in your shoes (one per shoe, beneath the sole) connect to your phone via Bluetooth, where a navigation app sends signals to your feet, telling you when to turn. You enter the destination and then follow the vibration. We took them on a hike up Cape Town’s Lion Head peak to test this out. After inputting the destination we followed our feet – vibration beneath right for right turn, left for left – and made it to the top. Though we used it on a trail, it could also be great in a foreign city, when you don’t want to be glancing at your phone regularly. They’re also relatively light, considering there’s a navigation pod in each one.
