Our favourite beauty revolutionary opens up about her routine.
Who are your favourite beauty icons?
I adore Patti Smith, Bianca Jagger, Nina Simone, Bette Davis and Sade.
Your skin is gorgeous. What is your regular skincare routine?
Drinking as much water as I can, a simple cleanser (I like eucerin products), toner spray, face cream, blemish cream (as needed), undereye cream and the occasional face mask.
What hair and makeup lessons did you learn from your mother?
That beauty is from the inside out. My mother always said, “Beauty is as beauty does.” I never understood that then, but I do now.
What’s your favourite fitness routine?
A mixture of cardio and strength training. Does anyone really like to work out? except that it does make you feel good and stronger, mentally clearer and ready to take on the world.
When you choose to wear lipstick, what’s your go-to colour?
currently none, but for lips I do love bright colours – red, deep pinks, even the right kind of orange is beautiful.
A lesson your current self could have taught your teenage self?
All girls don’t have to look the same. Do what feels good for you!
What hair stuff can you not live without?
Scarves and large, black cloth elastics.
Bread! Damn it! Soft, yummy, croissant-like bread.
Things you need in your dressing room before a performance?
My piano, fruit, tea and some space.
What most relaxes you?
A book, a nap, the breeze and the sound of the ocean.
