Turns out, everyone. These powerhouse blends promise to work wonders for every skin type – here’s why.

Dullness

“Oils are a great source of omega to help repair skin, boosting the skin’s glow,” says skin expert Dr Marko Lens. TRY Kiehl’s Daily Reviving Concentrate (R700).

Makeup

Use a lightweight oil to smooth and moisturise your face before applying cover-up. Our pick: Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Oil (R450), for luminosity.

Dryness

“If you suffer from dry skin, you should look for face oils that have a strong hydrating effect, such as jojoba oil,” advises Dr Lens. We recommend Clinique Smart Treatment Oil (R695).

Pigmentation

Dr Lens explains that “oils like camellia will reduce the appearance of pigmentation and reinforce the skin barrier function.” We adore Sorbet Salon Skin Facial Oil (R220).

Oiliness

“It’s a misconception that oils will make oily skin oilier,” says makeup pro Arabella Preston. “Oils penetrate and absorb in a way that creams don’t. Use a natural oil, like hazelnut (it’s more easily absorbed), to avoid clogged pores.” Go for Clarins Lotus Face Treatment Oil (R500).

Combination

According to facialist Abigail James, “Oils like rosehip seed are great for balancing combination skin and boosting cell turnover.” We like Palmer’s Skin Therapy Oil (R99.95).

Dehydration

“Face oils won’t just add hydration, they’ll also protect the skin from further moisture loss,” says biochemist Nausheen Qureshi. We love L’oréal Paris Age Perfect Extraordinary Face Oil (R349.95).
