We’ve seen this new craze on the runways, and we absolutely adore it! Here’s how to do super-artsy feathered nails.

Step 1 Prep

It’s important to always prepare your nails before a manicure – it makes your manicure look great and last longer. Soak your hands in warm water, then gently push back your cuticles using a tool, like [3] Tweezerman Nail Pushy (R295). Smoothen and file your nails for your desired shape. We like [1] The Body Shop Nail Polishing Block (R75). Apply a base coat, like [2] Ice Box Colors Treatment Base Coat (R110), and allow it to dry completely before applying your nail polish.

Step 2 Paint

Paint on two coats of a metallic or textured nail colour. TRY [4] Morgan Taylor Professional Nail Lacquer in No Way Rose (R135) or [5] Wet n Wild Mega Rocks Glitter Nail Color in Jam Session (R59.95). Then get coloured feathers from a craft shop and cut into tiny strips before applying (see step 3).

Step 3 Finish

Apply a clear nail polish, like [6] Rimmel 60 Seconds Super Shine Nail Color in Clear (R49.95), to half of the feather strip before you stick it to your nail using a pair of tweezers. If feathers are too daunting, cut cotton fabric into short strips and apply in the same way. Put strips on the top and bottom of your nail, leaving parts of the metallic polish exposed. Finish with a cuticle oil, like [7] LA Girl Cuticle Oil (R39.95).
