AFRO’S CHICKEN SHOP PASHA’S 3 Glenashley Centre, 37 Newport Ave; 031 562 0564/7

Sunday is family day at this homey spot, meaning you get to choose two large pizzas and two pastas for only R230 in total. We loved the Four Seasons (salami, ham, mushroom, olives, peppers and onion) and the steak and mushroom pizza, followed by Pasta Alfredo (bacon, garlic and mushroom sauce) and Kevin’s Favourite pasta with bacon, chicken and peri-peri.

SURF RIDERS FOOD SHACK 17 Erskine Terrace, Addington Beach; 031 825 8528

Start your day at this laidback beach café with the Breakfast Works (a sesame bun filled with two poached eggs, gouda, chorizo gravy and Hollandaise sauce; R59), or a Farmhouse Wrap (scrambled egg, mushrooms, bacon and gouda; R65). If you like burgers, go for the bacon and cheese burger (R65) with cheese fries (R25). It’s relaxed dining at its very best. Kingshall Building, 80 Samora Machel St; 074 055 3408 Fresh, a ordable, simple and well located, this local favourite ticks all the boxes. Start your day with the bacon and egg roll (R28) and ‘tjips’ (R25), then tuck into the ‘koel’ (lemony) chicken strips and chips (R39) or try the tender chilli-flavoured chicken burger with coleslaw (R39). For something light and fresh, go for the delicious chicken salad with mango or avo served with a hot or koel dressing (R39).
