Glass mani to go!
This easy and cute nailart effect is #trending – and it looks great on everyone! We’ve got your complete how-to.
Like so many beauty obsessions of the moment, the latest nail trend to light up Instagram hails from Korea. When Eunkyung Park, the It-girl nail artist, first posted her glassnails manicure – the beauty term for the light-catching, holographic style – on the platform, her phone started blowing up: “Tons of people were regramming it, asking how to get the fragmented effect at home,” she says. Her original inspiration? “The inside of an abalone shell.” Here is her quick lesson on the technique:
Eunkyung originally cut cellophane sweet wrappers into thin slivers to mimic broken glass. If you want to try it, cut regular cellophane into random triangles of varying sizes and angles with super-sharp scissors. The colour will shine through the shards and create a holographic effect. Eunkyung likes a dark green tint, like Dolce & Gabbana Nail Lacquer in Wild Green (R425). She also enjoys softer beiges, like Avon BB 7 In 1 Nail Colour (R99.90) for a prismatic blush tone. Or skip the coloured nail polish altogether and go with a clear base coat, as shown above.
