DO meet Emily Meuleman
The ballet dancer turned international model has a shiny new gig.
they say you never know how your day will turn out. And that was certainly the case for Emily Meuleman, who was a 16-year-old East London student taking her regular ballet class when a photographer arrived in search of a dancer for a shoot he was working on.
“Things kind of took off from there,” says the fine-boned beauty – in something of an understatement. Now 23, Emily has been based in London for the past five years, modelling for the likes of Alberta Ferretti, Simone Rocha and Pringle of Scotland. But the literal and metaphorical jewel in her crown is her latest assignment: as the face of Mimco accessories’ sensational new Poetic Tempest range. The first SA model to feature in a Mimco campaign, Emily follows in the gilded footsteps of Soo Joo Park and Ajak Deng, so it’s no wonder she describes this as an honour.
It’s also had the benefit of bringing her home for a while. “I love the travel and cultural discoveries that come with my job, but it also means a lot of time alone in planes and hotels,” she confesses.
