Smart leaps to mak­ing it in your ca­reer

Who hasn’t felt ner­vous in a job in­ter­view? And it doesn’t help if the stuff they ask is chal­leng­ing or plain rude. But if you think you’ve faced awk­ward in­ter­view ques­tions, read on for some of the odd­est we’ve heard.

urgh, in­ter­views. We’ve all been there – your heart is pound­ing, your smartest white shirt has be­come a mop for your rapidly melt­ing de­odor­ant and you’ve bit­ten your man­i­cure down to the quick. But the real stum­bling blocks are the ques­tions, right? You have no idea whether they’re go­ing to probe your per­son­al­ity or make you build the Taj Ma­hal out of Le­gos. “There’s a trend to more ab­stract in­ter­view ques­tions,” says ca­reer coach Sarah Archer. “This is to try and un­der­stand how log­i­cally the can­di­date thinks, and how they han­dle the un­ex­pected.” And these ques­tions would even make Si­mon Cow­ell cringe.
