Yadi Lemos Magwentshu

Yadi’s Mad Millen brand is a reflection of her brilliant mind, a combination of elegant simplicity and a subtle quirkiness.

Glamour (South Africa) - - Style -

For this project, I want to evoke energy, animation, liveliness, sweetness and a little bit of magic. This feeling will be reflected in the garments that I create through a mix and match of bold and colourful summer fabrics.

My inspiration

“Sugar, spice and all things nice.” If you’ve ever seen Cartoon Network’s The Powerpuff Girls, you’ll recall that these were the ingredients used to make the little superheroes – as that’s what little girls are made of. But, I think most importantly, these kind and friendly traits come from within. The birth of my daughter, Xyla, has sparked something inside of me. I’m now living a life full of love, happiness, colour and dreams.

Because most of my time is spent with her, my mind has been clouded with everything that reminds me of her, as depicted in my mood board. The vivid colours, sweets, ice cream and messiness of the paint strokes.

The look and feel

When it comes to translating this mood board into an actual collection, I would go with light and soft fabrics such as tulle, chiffon, satin and charmeuse. They’re not easy to work with because they’re slippery and delicate, but they look beautiful.

The colours I’m working with are a bright and pastel palette of strawberry, cream, illusion blue, cabbage, rose shadow, blue tint, white sand, summer melon and lilac snow.
