Bathleisure

It’s a thing

-

picture this: you’re walking down the road, in your bedhead hair, your house shoes and a loosely belted bathrobe. A dream? A nightmare? Actually, a slinky fashion reality.

Ever since Burberry sent models down its autumn 2016 catwalk in layered ‘dressing coats’, style stars like Rihanna, Selena Gomez, Kim Kardashian West and Gigi Hadid have adopted the bedroom-by-day look. Now satin pyjamas, velvet robes, lace-accented shirts, silk kimonos and smoking slippers are a big trend.

Bathleisure or boudoir style, as it’s known, is all about sensual fabrics and sexy silhouettes that celebrate femininity and romance with a touch of over-the-top luxe. “And there’s no denying the comfort,” says art director Victoria Ravest, who tried the trend for an evening of cocktails. “I fitted right in.” Out on the street, she also received her share of you-go-girl thumbs-ups.

One of the best parts of the trend? How flattering it is! Those sexy pj pants and silky blouse are way more forgiving for a lunch date than leggings and a tank top. Add the fact that they look much more beautiful and yes, walking down the street in your robe really is a fashion dream!
