joburg LA VIE EN ROSE 60 5th Street, Houghton Estate 011 268 6144

This trendy joint offers a menu heavily influenced by Moroccan flavours. Thus making it the perfect place to indulge in hearty food while tucked away in a snug garden setting. We loved the Enchantress (grilled chicken fillet with French onion marmalade, Emmental cheese and Dijon mustard; R112) and the Moroccan Rose (Moroccan-spiced fillet with sweet potato fritters, and date and baby spinach salad; R194).

If the gluten-free menu and rustic interiors isn’t enough to tempt you to this gourmet health spot, then the 500m garden walkway will. Try the Mexican protein wrap (R72) with the organic kale salad (R55). Don’t forget to try their vegan strawberry cheesecake (R52) – must-have for dessert.

Grand panoramas of the KZN midlands and a rustic interior make Blueberry Café a mustvisit. We loved the breakfast stack with free-range eggs, spinach and artisanal bread (R80), followed by the ever-popular blueberry cheesecake (R50).

NONNA 1A Igwababa Rd, Makaranga Garden Lodge, Kloof 031 764 6616

Positioned in the rolling hills of Kloof, Nonna is a contemporary style restaurant that spills out onto a covered deck with views of their very own botanical garden. Dig into the tender gourmet burger (R115). Then cool off with a bowl of the triple chocolate mousse (R65).
