Go! Camp & Drive - - Weekend | Western Cape -

What is the trail like? It’s mostly a rocky road that leads you up and down the surrounding mountains, with a sandy play pit at the bottom. Do I need a 4x4? A 4x4 with low range and good ground clearance is a must. Highway-orientated or low-profile tyres and running boards are likely to get damaged on the rocks. But the trail is suitable for less experienced drivers since there are escape routes on the most challenging obstacles. Where can we stay? Marcuskraal has a green campsite, six self-catering rooms and two luxury chalets with three bedrooms each. What else can we do? This is a working family farm and you won’t find things like a bar or restaurant on the property. Citrusdal and Clanwilliam are both only about half an hour’s drive away, though. Also consider spending some time in the Cederberg while you’re in the area – it’s very close and the unique natural beauty is worth the drive. Costs: R250 per vehicle for the trail and R120 per adult to camp (R80 for children between two and 11 years; kids younger than two stay for free). Self-catering rooms cost R700 per night for two people (kids included). The luxury chalets are priced according to a sliding scale – the more people, the less you pay. Prices start at R1100 per night for two people (kids included). Also chat to the owners about midweek discounts.
