Ford’s famous 1 ℓ Ecoboost engine has walked away with yet another international award. For six years in a row, this engine has been named the best engine under 1 ℓ in the world. (It’s the 12th time since its launch in 2012 that this Ford engine has won such an award.) The three-cylinder is used in one out of five Fords in Europe, and is one of the company’s biggest success stories in recent years. The judges – a panel of 58 motoring journalists from 31 countries – were impressed with the good combination of power, fuel consumption, and technology of this 1 ℓ little guy. Larger versions of the EcoBoost – up to 3,5 ℓ – also do good service in other Fords across the globe. That includes bakkies, panel vans, and the GT supercar. Moreover, the development of the EcoBoost continues: Ford has announced that a new version of the engine will be launched in early 2018. This engine will have technology that can activate and deactivate the cylinders individually as power is needed – 20 times faster than you can blink your eyes! >
