The tow bar. The bar is not stan­dard and costs R1 580 ex­tra, plus R2 050 for the har­ness. Labour is ex­cluded and dif­fers from dealer to dealer. Volk­swa­gen al­lows a nose weight of up to 130 kg, which ex­ceeds South Africa’s le­gal pre­scrip­tion by 30 kg. Sus­pen­sion. As you can ex­pect from a bakkie, the rear sus­pen­sion is quite stiff. It gave way only 2 cm un­der the

nose weight of the Ar­madillo. Weight? 2 350 kg with the driver in the Amarok, a full fuel tank, and the 95 kg nose weight of the Ar­madillo on the tow bar. In­te­rior. The front seats’ hight is ad­justable but for a six-foot per­son there is still a hand-size space above the head. At the back your knees touch the seat in front of you with two fin­gers above your kneecap. Speed. The speedome­ter is al­most 100% ac­cu­rate. If it says you’re trav­el­ling 100 km/h, the GPS shows you’re do­ing 98 km/h. Fuel con­sump­tion. For this size en­gine one can’t com­plain: 11,49 ℓ/100 km (8,7 km/ℓ). The com­puter’s read­ing dif­fers only slightly: 12,5 ℓ/100 km (8 km/ℓ). Fin­ish. Stylish, durable, sturdy. The in­te­rior fin­ish is dark and light grey with dull sil­ver strokes as well as shiny black plas­tic parts on, amongst other things, the steer­ing wheel. Ex­tras. Things like me­tal­lic paint is ex­tra at R1 600, and 17-inch rims cost R7 000 while 19-inch rims cost R11 950 ex­tra.
