In­side the mo­torhome, tent or car­a­van

Only use heaters and ovens spe­cially de­signed for use in your car­a­van. Never use your gas oven as a heater. Check all con­nec­tions for leaks be­fore open­ing the gas cylin­der.

In gen­eral

Reg­u­larly check all wash­ers and O-rings on ap­pli­ances, cylin­ders and reg­u­la­tors. Ad­just burn­ers ac­cord­ingly: There’s no need for gi­ant flames if all you’re mak­ing is a pot of cof­fee. Use gas-fu­elled items in well-ven­ti­lated ar­eas only. Do not open the cylin­der un­til you’re ready to ig­nite. go! Drive & Camp says Ac­cord­ing to the law (SANS 10087), in in­stances where a mo­bile unit is made with oc­cu­pancy in mind, such as a trailer or car­a­van, an LP­gas cylin­der is only to be stored in a re­cess or com­part­ment that is air­tight to the in­side and vented and ac­ces­si­ble to the out­side. The law also states that the cylin­der should be se­cured in such a way that when a force equalling that of four times its filled mass is ap­plied to it in any di­rec­tion, it should not be­come dis­lodged.
