Umoya under new ownership
Umoya Caravan Lodge is the pride of Bela-Bela and new owners have recently taken over this popular campsite. Umoya used to belong to Herman van Tonder – also the owner of Mbizi across the road – but the resort was sold to Adél and Fabrice Bonthoux. Adél and Fabrice wasted no time and have already made quite a few changes.
The fenced-in farmyard with its animals is still to the left as you drive into the resort, but there are a few new faces: from rabbits and tortoises to Betsie, a tame piglet.
Weeds in the grass around the stands have been removed and the general upkeep of the resort has been improved. The biggest change is the restaurant, which is now fully operational and campers can choose between quite a few takeaway meals. The burgers range in price from R35 to R55, toasted sandwiches from R20 to R40, R30 for chips, and R25 to R35 for a sausage roll. The bar has also been revamped and the fridges that used to be in the middle have been moved so the barman can see everyone around him.
