Colourful cupcakes to aid kids with cancer
BEACON Bay Retail Park will be a hive of colour and taste on national cupcake day for kids with cancer on Saturday.
Cupcakes for Hope generally assists charities that do work which involves children with cancer. They have donated to 14 charities so far like CHOC, Reach for a Dream, Cansa and the Sunflower Fund just to name a few.
The annual event is an opportunity to show off your creativity and baking ability and to raise funds for children with life-threatening diseases. As September is childhood cancer awareness month, leaflets with the early cancer warning signs will also be distributed.
Unfortunately this year, the spot in Hemingways where the event is usually held at is under construction and so only Retail Park will be hosting the event.
“We try to keep the money we raise in East London. For instance, last year, we donated about R18 000 to East London CHOC in the form of mattresses, bedding, cutlery and the like,” said the East London Cupcakes for Hope area coordinator, Eve Müller.
This year’s proceeds will go to the Frere children’s oncology ward and a donation box will be placed at Pick n Pay in Retail Park.
Those who still want to register have up until tomorrow to do so, and can contact Müller at 072-097-9948.
TASTY TREAT: Some very colourful, creative and even better, tasty little cakes will be on display at Retail Park for the Cupcakes for Hope initiative this Saturday
