Timely, practical advice

go! Platteland - - CHITCHAT - Benita de Robillard, JOHANNESBURG

The article “Trash Must Fall” in Platteland #9 was so timely for me. I had just seen the widely circulating video that shows how marine biologists had to remove a plastic straw from a marine turtle’s nose.

Colleen Black’s guide to changing our consumption practices, including refusing single-use plastic straws, is practical and I have already managed to effect some of her suggestions quite painlessly in a matter of weeks. I hope to see more articles about zero waste and sustainable practices that those of us who live in urban centres can also adopt.

The piece about Annemarie Viviers’s move to Pringle Bay was also fascinating. Thank you, Benita! Check out the news snippet on page 11 – Colleen will be selling stainless-steel straws and Abeego reusable food wraps soon. – Eds.
