Pleased to meet you

go! Platteland - - LETTERS -

We live in Stanford – not quite the platteland, and I’m sure at least some residents would be offended even to think so! Having previously lived in McGregor, though, and wanting to build on our property in Robertson soon, my heart is more Klein-Karoo than Overberg, so I guess a bit more platteland.

I came across your Spring 2015 Issue ( Platteland #8) while staying at Port Wine Guest House in Calitzdorp and read the feature on Steytlerville, Willowmore and Uniondale – which was fortuitous, as we were heading to PE.

If we hadn’t had the benefit of your insights, it’s unlikely we would have stopped for coffee and cheesecake at The Verandah, and then would not have met Jelly Bean the bat-eared fox, seen the rescued kudu calves or discovered the old cars. (I’m hesitant to use the word vintage, as I remember some of them from my youth!) Thanks for the inspiration and yet more reasons to get off the main routes.

Gordon Knight, STANFORD
