Trees without borders
Unlike the rest of the world, here at Platteland we aren’t app crazy, but TheTreeApp is one you can download if you, too, prefer trees to people from time to time. TheTreeApp, which recently won MTN’s Best Agriculture Solution App Award, currently lists 979 indigenous and 135 invader tree species, and features more than 1 100 illustrations. The botanical and common names of each tree are given (in all 11 languages, where available), plus there’s a description of each one’s key features (height, shape, leaves, flowers, thorns and whether or not it’s poisonous), habitat, conservation status and uses. With your phone or tablet’s GPS feature, you can even refine your search based on where you are so that you see only the trees that are common in that area.
