Jock is alive!

go! - - Upfront Letters -

I first became acquainted with Jock of the Bushveld in the 1970s, when I was given a copy of Sir Percy Fitzpatrick’s book. I love dogs and the story of Jock has always fascinated me, so when I came across the article “Follow in Jock’s paw prints” in go! #121, I decided to do just that. But little did we know that retracing some of his journey would eventually lead us to Jock himself… We were in Pilgrim’s Rest, outside a curio shop, when I saw the spitting image of the dog that had featured on the front cover of my favourite childhood book! It might have been coincidence, but it was the highlight of my holiday. I don’t know to whom the dog belongs, but one thing is for sure: Jock of the Bushveld lives on.
