A golfer is never too old to have a hole-in-one, as 82-year-old Aubrey Coppin proved during a holiday round at Pinnacle Point in the last few days of 2014. Coppin, from Mowbray GC, hadn’t had an ace since he was a young man 46 years ago. On the difficult par-3 ninth at Pinnacle Point, where the green sits on the edge of a cliff, he holed out with his driver. He had a double-stroke on the hole, so the ace was worth 6 Stableford points! A week later, playing the 16th on his home course, he almost holed out again, the tee shot finishing behind the hole. There’s something about having an ace that makes you confident you’ll immediately get another one. Why else would there be so many occurrences of golfers getting aces close together.
