HEAVY LIFTING

Golf Digest (South Africa) - - Inside The Ropes -

You’ve heard about counterbalanced putters, but the fact is that some players prefer counterbalancing in their fullswing clubs, too. Jack Nicklaus was a proponent almost throughout his career, and all of Sergio Garcia’s clubs are counterbalanced. Players today use Boccieri Golf’s Secret Grip – a product that weighs 92 grams as opposed to standard grips that weight approximately 50 grams. The extra weight up near the butt end of the club raises the club’s balance point to provide the counterbalanced effect.

Retief Goosen, Rory Sabbatini and Jason Day are among PGA Tour players who have switched to TaylorMade’s

new R15 driver, which marks the company’s return to white-coloured clubheads on its woods. Although the pros have the R15 now, consumers must wait a little longer to try the driver, which features a channel with two 12.5-gram sliding weights in the sole that can be arranged in any one of 153 settings from draw to fade.
