JEAN HUGO is one of the most experienced and successful home-based players on the Sunshine Tour. He has made 273 tournament appearances in 15 years, won 15 titles, and his official career earnings exceed R8 million. Yet 2014 was a landmark season for him in that he broke through the million-rand milestone in a season for the first time. Now 39, Hugo earned R1.4 million in 2014 to finish 11th on the Order of Merit. That doesn’t include a R285 000 bonus for doing well in the last Chase to the Investec Cup. The big difference for the former Stellenbosch product was that he played consistently well in the co-sanctioned tournaments for the first time, earning six-figure cheques in four of them. His biggest single payday, though, of R257 000, came in the Dimension Data Pro-Am at Fancourt, where he tied for second place. Hugo played in all 25 tournaments, and missed just one cut, at the Wild Waves Challenge.
