Five in a row for WP Su­per Se­niors

West­ern Prov­ince claimed their fifth suc­ces­sive Su­per Se­niors A di­vi­sion ti­tle at Ebotse, although they lost their first game in three years, 4-2 to KZN on the sec­ond day. But KZN lost a nar­row con­test to Cen­tral Gaut­eng the next day, and fin­ished a point be­hind. WP were with­out the peren­nial Jon Hob­day, who at 75 stood down af­ter rep­re­sent­ing WP se­nior teams for 20 years. Her­man Septem­ber was their star, be­ing the A di­vi­sion MVP with 8½ points out of 10, win­ning all five of his sin­gles at No 1, the only player to achieve that. The other team mem­bers were Mark Hair, Tim He­wan and Ivan Pal­fra­man.

South­ern Cape, field­ing a Su­per Se­nior team for the first time since the IPT changed its for­mat, won the B di­vi­sion at Benoni CC with Hans Giesen, John Mitchell, Peter Hod­son and Colin Short. They dropped one point, a 3-3 half with Bor­der. Giesen was MVP in the B di­vi­sion, with 10½ points out of 12, although he did lose a sin­gles to Shadrack Molefe (North West). Mitchell won all six of his sin­gles at No 4.
