Five in a row for WP Super Seniors
Western Province claimed their fifth successive Super Seniors A division title at Ebotse, although they lost their first game in three years, 4-2 to KZN on the second day. But KZN lost a narrow contest to Central Gauteng the next day, and finished a point behind. WP were without the perennial Jon Hobday, who at 75 stood down after representing WP senior teams for 20 years. Herman September was their star, being the A division MVP with 8½ points out of 10, winning all five of his singles at No 1, the only player to achieve that. The other team members were Mark Hair, Tim Hewan and Ivan Palframan.
Southern Cape, fielding a Super Senior team for the first time since the IPT changed its format, won the B division at Benoni CC with Hans Giesen, John Mitchell, Peter Hodson and Colin Short. They dropped one point, a 3-3 half with Border. Giesen was MVP in the B division, with 10½ points out of 12, although he did lose a singles to Shadrack Molefe (North West). Mitchell won all six of his singles at No 4.
