KEEGAN OFF TO MIAMI
An eagle on the 17th and a remarkable recovery shot on the final hole at Vaal de Grace earned Keegan McLachlan a one-shot victory in the 54-hole Glacier Junior Series Final. He earns himself a trip to the Junior Orange Bowl in Miami in December.
The 16-year-old Silver Lakes member opened with 65-66 to lead by two, but was caught and overtaken by David Meyers (Dainfern) on the back nine of the final round. Two behind playing the par-5 17th, McLachlan holed an eight-foot eagle putt (after a 6-iron approach) to tie Meyers. At 18 his tee shot went left, but he hacked out from under a tree to the back of green and two-putted for par. That gave him a 72 and 13-under total of 203.
Meyers missed the green and could not save par, shooting 69 to finish second on 204. Third on 205, after a closing 66, was Marco Steyn (Modderfontein), followed on 206 by Luca Filippi (Milnerton) and 207 by Garrick Higgo (De Zalze).
