▶ 18-year-old Etienne Janse van Rensburg (Akasia) shot 70-67 to win the Gauteng North Silver Salver at Irene CC, by two from Keegan McLachlan (69-70) and Ross Sinclair (71-68). Sinclair won the Lion of Africa Junior Open at Clovelly (69-70).
▶ Serengeti’s Paul Boshoff completed a wire-to-wire victory in the Indian Ocean Amateur Open with 72-73-69 at Heritage GC in Mauritius, six ahead of India’s Veer Ahlawat, with Jade Buitendag and Jason Viljoen tied third on 221.
▶ State Mines’ Casey Jarvis (73-7371) is the SA Under-13 champion, winning by one from Jordan Duminy (Louis57 Academy, Southern Cape 79-72-67) at Royal Durban. Jarvis won the 10-11 age category in the Optimist International in the US in July. Zamokuhle Nxasana (Ekurhuleni) and Jan Human (S Cape) were third on 222 followed by Yurav Premlall (EK) on 225. Ekurhuleni successfully defended the team competition, finishing 43 shots ahead of Southern Cape, with Central Gauteng third.
▶ Aubrey Beckley (Potchefstroom) took individual honours with 74-7170-73 at the Africa Amateur Team Championship at Limuru CC in Kenya, helping South Africa (Jade Buitendag, Andre Nel and Jason Smith) win the biennial event by 18 shots from the hosts, with Zimbabwe third.
▶ Danielle du Toit (Pretoria CC), 16, won the Ackerman Championship at Royal Cape with 79-74-70, two ahead of Vicki Traut (Malmesbury 78-72-75), with Lejan Lewthwaite (Benoni Lake) on 229.
▶ Teaghan Gauche and Matthew Spacey learned a harsh lesson representing South Africa in the biennial Spirit International teams event in Texas, when they were disqualified in the first round for signing an incorrect scorecard in the betterball. The DQ also affected the two SA women, Ivanna Samu and Kaleigh Telfer, in the overall standings, although they were still able to compete in the women’s championship.
