RANKED 8 in 2014 Hugely con­sis­tent but still seek­ing first tour­na­ment win. He had six top-10s and won 7½ out of 10 points for win­ning Cen­tral Gaut­eng IPT team (un­beaten in sin­gles).

RANKED 20 in 2014 Solid year with 9 top-10s, but no vic­tory since 2013. Was T-2 at South­ern Cape and third at Free State Open. Played for SA in Zone VI tour­na­ment.

5 AL­BERT VEN­TER

AGE 19 / Gaut­eng North

NOT RANKED in 2014 Mas­sive climb in rank­ings from 31 to 5 be­tween July and Novem­ber with two sec­onds and a sen­sa­tional fi­nal round 63 to win the EP Open at PE Golf Club.

AGE 19 / Cen­tral Gaut­eng

RANKED 80 in 2014 Run­ner-up at SA Stroke­play in Fe­bru­ary, he had 9 top-10s in 10 events be­tween March and July be­fore leav­ing for Missisippi State on a golf schol­ar­ship.

7 JA­SON SMITH

AGE 21 / Gaut­eng North

RANKED 4 in 2014 Failed to win but was third three times and had three other top10s. Reached SA Am­a­teur quar­ter­fi­nals, and played for SA against Scot­land at Zone VI and in South­ern Cross.

8 TEAGHAN GAUCHE

AGE 23 / Gaut­eng North

RANKED 16 in 2014 Won North­ern Am­a­teur, run­ner-up at WP Stroke­play and WP Match­play, 4 other top-5s. Played for SA against Scot­land, at Zone VI and in Ar­gentina.

9 JAMES DU PREEZ

AGE 20 / Gaut­eng North

RANKED 12 in 2014 Won Cape Prov­ince Open with fi­nal round 64, third at Gaut­eng North Open, Ekurhu­leni Open, Lim­popo Open and Op­pen­heimer Tro­phy. Back in­jury pre­vented full sched­ule.

AGE 16 / Boland

RANKED 23 in 2014 Promis­ing teenager won North­ern Open against strong field, and KZN Am­a­teur. Sec­ond at Op­pen­heimer Tro­phy and South­ern Cape Open. Played for SA Ju­niors in Ja­pan.
