Steve Williams may be 54, but he still prefers to play Mid-Amateur tournaments ahead of Senior events. The Modderfontein member did enter the SA Senior Open, though, at Blue Valley, and beat a mixed field of amateurs and professionals to lift the trophy for the first time. He kept it in the family, as older brother Chris had triumphed in 2014. Williams trailed 36-hole leader Rodger Govender by six shots going into the final round, but closed with a 68 to beat Govender (76) by two. He had 73-68-68 for a seven-under total of 209. Ashley Roestoff was third on 214 ahead of Rocky Tlhabayane on 215.

Chris Williams did not defend his title, playing instead on the PGA Legends Tour in Australia.
