A SURPRISE BUCKET LIST TRIP TO LEOPARD CREEK
In the July issue of Golf Digest you published my letter where I identified the “Big Five” of SA’s golf courses that are on my bucket list.
Huge was my surprise when I received a call from a lady who invited me to come and play Leopard Creek as her guest! Lara Simms had read my letter in Golf Digest and taken the trouble to trace me via Facebook. Best of all was that Lara extended the invitation to my entire family. We made the arrangements for the big day on October 8.While my wife and daughter were entertained and relaxed at the guest visitor centre, my son and I (above) took on the “Leopard” in the charming company of our host. It was extremely hot, with the temperature reaching 44C, but that did not detract from an awesome and unbelievable experience!
The course was in immaculate condition and to tread where legends had gone before us was like a fairy tale. But this was actually for real! We even saw several animals in the adjacent Kruger National Park, as if Lara had arranged that especially for us.
The golf was over way too quickly, but luckily not the day, as Lara and her hubby had graciously offered us overnight accommodation in their beautiful home, and we could relive the best day of our lives over dinner and a couple of cold ones.
Just again proof that golf is certainly the most beautiful game played by true gentlemen and ladies, of course, as what can beat spending time on the best course with a complete stranger, who had it in her heart to make one of my dreams come true?
I salute you Lara Simms. You are my Super Hero. Now I had better go and check my phone for any calls from the other four golf courses on the list.
