TO ENJOY LEGEND, YOU MUST TAKE IN THE ENTIRE EXPERIENCE
Legend is one of the more remote courses in the Top 100, about two hours north of Pretoria in the Waterberg region of Limpopo. To truly appreciate this resort, you need to make a proper outing of it. It’s not just a case of going there, playing the course, and coming home.
First of all, any golfing visitor to Legend must play the Tribute Par 3 course, a unique 10-hole design by David Riddle which is a tribute to some of the most famous short holes in golf, including those from Au- gusta National and the Old Course. These are excellent replicas, and provide incredible fun and excitement. The round tests most of the clubs in your bag, and it ends with the famous island green 17th hole from TPC Sawgrass.
Legend now has a proper clubhouse, instead of a temporary one, and the facilities are superb.
The fairways on the main course at Legend are extremely dry after a hot summer, but certainly playable, despite being ravaged by hungry animals. The course staff has put a lot of effort into ensuring the greens, tees and bunkers are well maintained. The greens were excellent, among the best in the country. The rating team which visited Legend were unanimous in saying that the condition was better than acceptable. The greens accepted shots better than most courses we have recently played.
The other plus factor from a golfing experience is the Extreme 19th Hole from the top of Hanglip mountain which towers over the resort. A helicopter ride to the tee just rounds off a fantastic weekend. – Dave Horak & Sandor Kovacs
