SKIN­NER WINS AGAIN IN GAUT­ENG NORTH

Wil­liam Skin­ner, a two-time win­ner in 2015, be­gan the new se­nior am­a­teur sea­son with vic­tory in the Gaut­eng North Open at Win­gate Park. Two 74s gave the 55-year-old Zwartkop player a four-shot mar­gin over home club mem­ber Gor­don Wes­sels (72-76). Tied third on 149 were Jock Welling­ton, Greg Glee­son, Bruno van Eck, Derik Piek, Jo­han Swart and Mark O’Brien. Skin­ner moved to No 5 on the na­tional se­nior rank­ings, and Wes­sels to No 11. ** Gerard Blaauw (CC Jo­han­nes­burg) had his break­through vic­tory in the Free State Se­nior Open at the age of 59, scor­ing 72 in a weather-short­ened 18holer at Bloem­fontein GC. Next on 73 were Joe Phiri (Rusten­burg) and Chris Del­port (Zwartkop), with Stephen Ros­siter (Krugers­dorp), Con­rad de Beer (Kim­ber­ley) and Stan­ley de Beer (Bloem) on 74. ** Former SA in­ter­na­tional Ryan Dreyer (Kil­lar­ney 70-69) won the first Mi­dA­ma­teur tour­na­ment of the year, the Cen­tral Gaut­eng Open, aft™er a play­off at Ruim­sig with El­ton James (West­lake 68-71) and Neil Fusedale (Kyalami 72-67). De­fend­ing cham­pion Ger­lou Roux (Bel­lville 72-69) was fourth ahead of Stephen John­ston (Ruim­sig 73-69). James has now been a run­ner-up in five of his last eight events.
