Steyn spoke with a ma­ture voice a‹fter­wards: “A‹fter miss­ing the cut badly at the Joburg Open I re­alised that I had put my­self un­der too much pres­sure to per­form at a level I’m not ready for yet. I had to start at the bot­tom in ju­nior golf and work my way up, and it’s the same with the am­a­teur cir­cuit now.” NO­TABLE: An­gus El­lis-Cole (Glen­dower) had a back nine of 29 in a first round 67, fin­ish­ing with five con­sec­u­tive birdies.

Higgo in his third round 64 had eight birdies in the last 12 holes. NO­TABLE: It’s the third time in five years that an English­man has won the ti­tle, fol­low­ing Toby Tree’s vic­to­ries in 2012 and 2013. Louis-Eras­mus Al­bertse (Dundee) had the low round of the tour­na­ment, a 9-birdie 63 in the first round.
